Artist Statement
I am blessed to be able to see and photograph the world from above….for more then 10,000 hours over the years, on a regular basis, from low altitudes, at low airspeeds, from Airships, airplanes and helicopters of which I fly.
Snow Shadows captures the structural design of these bare trees that would not be noticeable from ground level in such detail. The contrast of the shadows against the snow-covered ground allows for another dimension captured only from above.
I shot this from my airplane at 130 mph with a Canon 1Ds with ISO at 200, 1/640 sec. @ F 8 with Canon's spectacular 70-200 IS lens while I was chewing gum, flying, framing, and watching for birds simultaneously.
