Artist Statement
My photography is taken during the borderlands of day and night, when shadows predominate. I favor a compressed, high contrast appearance overall, having graphic design elements in the foreground, generally presented within a soft and moody background. My photographic style has been described as dark and haunting. In this image, exposed after the sun declined, I was impressed with the patterns of the mud and the texture of the dried sand along this creek as it entered the ocean at Kahoe Beach. I used a 4x5 field camera with a 90 mm Schneider lens and a 2 stop hard graduated neutral density filter. After scanning, the image was digitally processed and printed on Hahnemuhle pearl 285 paper.
There is no doubt that photography is exciting in the field and a challenge in the studio. I hope you enjoy this print. |
