Artist Statement
During a study abroad trip to Italy, I had the opportunity to explore its cities and culture, resulting in a body of work that depicts my personal interpretation of the country.
Bed in Villa is one photograph in a collection titled "Quiet Reflection." The image is of a simple iron bed in a villa housing students in Genoa. The subject of the photograph becomes less important and instead serves as a vehicle for the celebration of light, line, shape and form, within the discovered beauty I found from unexpected sources.
I have chosen to work in black and white photography because I enjoy the simplicity of tones and I enjoy paring the subject down to what I feel is its essential form. Taking away the color also allow the image to go beyond reality and merely representation.
I hope you enjoy the photograph. |
