Artist Statement
In 2006, I was curious about working on some still lifes but on a very small scale. Insects seemed a natural choice so I collected dead bugs around the house for a few months. With the crane flies, I was mostly interested in their wings (they have gorgeous wings with black dots on them) but then realized that their legs also had interesting lines. This composition was only a few inches in size so I needed tweezers to arrange the legs. Textured modeling clay was used as background. |
