Artist Statement

It was late afternoon, about 4:30 p.m. as the sun was deep in the west. I was on my way home after a long day of shooting photos when I suddenly saw this incredible blue building here in Los Angeles, with the west-sun glistening over it. I pulled my car over and grabbed my camera. I did not use a telephoto lens, just my regular 18-55mm lens! I was captivated by the brilliant blue of the glass and the contrasting silver of the steel, as the balconies cascaded down the face of the building towards the street. I see images with a deep emotion for the impermanence of all things. At the heart of my work I strive to capture the essence of my subjects at exactly the perfect moment, allowing light and shadow to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation. The sun favored me that October day. Only one title spoke to me for this photograph: Balconies For Juliet.o
