Bob Carter

Bob Carter is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He attended The University of Missouri where he studied under Ted Denyer. There he was introduced to the abstract philosophical concepts of Hans Hoffmann and the New York school of Abstract Expressionism. While at the University he was art editor of the campus humor magazine, SHOWME. His work was exhibited at the St Louis City Art Museum, The Dayton Art Institute, and The Cincinnati Museum of Art. He went to New York City to study with Will Barnet at The Art Students’ League and live the bohemian life of a young artist. After being drafted into the Army and serving for two years Bob graduated from Southern Illinois University and began a teaching career that spanned thirty-seven years and two states. The last thirty of those years were spent teaching in the Sequoia Union High School District. He has exhibited throughout the Bay Area and maintains a daily work schedule of painting and drawing that has lead to his current exhibit at the Coastal Arts League Gallery and Museum.
